Balakrishnan G. Iyer (Balki) is the founding Chief Growth Officer of Utopus Insights, responsible for all sales, marketing and business development activities for the company. He is a senior Management Professional in the Energy and Utilities sector who served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Enel Green Power India. Enel established its presence by acquiring a platform where Balki was part of the Key Management responsible for growth of the company through Business Development, development of projects by managing engineering and construction, and operations of all renewable power projects in India. Balki has also co-founded a data analytics/technology company in the Energy and Utilities space that developed new products including predictive analytics. Balki also built and ran the offshore customer operations team in India.
Prior to this, Balki led Business Development for GE's Global Research Center, based in New York, with responsibility for driving new technology development in the Renewable Energy portfolio (wind and solar) and Smart Grid for Energy and Utility customers globally.
Balki has worked in several GE businesses with increasing responsibilities in the areas of Business Development, Services, Operations, Quality and Risk Management in various parts of the United States, Europe and Asia. He was in GE Capital as Vice President, Business Development, where he had responsibility for developing and driving new growth opportunities by identifying new markets and product solutions. He is Six Sigma Black Belt certified and is a graduate of GE's prestigious Management Leadership Program.
Balki attended the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) for Joint Undergraduate and Master's Degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Science; he holds a Master of Science in Systems Science and Industrial Engineering from Binghamton University, NY, and a Master of Business Administration from New York University (NYU) Stern school of business.
Balki is a Director at Iyer Educational Institutions that runs schools and a technology platform focused on development of children with autism which he co-founded with his wife. Balki also sat on the Executive Board for GE's Asia Pacific American Forum, a diversity group focused on Asian leadership talent within GE.
Balki lives in New York with his wife Svetlana and daughters Meera and Maya. His hobbies include yoga and badminton.
